School History

Airport Elementary is a Pre-K through 5th grade school which opened the fall of 1988 and was officially dedicated on April 23, 1989. Our motto is “Flying High on Learning – We Touch the Future”.

Since its beginnings, the mission of Airport Elementary has been to ensure that all students acquire the academic and social skills needed to be productive members of society. The school has continually carried out this mission in preparing students for a dynamic future by emphasizing critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.

Airport Elementary has earned numerous awards over the years. Since the Texas Education Agency began rating schools in 1994, Airport Elementary has been rated an Exemplary school 12 times (1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011). The Texas Business and Education Coalition has also recognized Airport Elementary on its Honor Roll of Top Schools in Texas. Airport has made the prestigious Honor Roll for five years (2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010).

The tradition and success over the years is due in part to former and present administrators, teachers, staff members, parents, and students. We instill in our students the importance of trying their best in all they do. Our school song eloquently sums up what we hope to accomplish:

Airport you will be proud of me. I will keep all the things I learned.

I will fly. You have shown me how. Airport, we love you. Airport, my school.
